Job Description

Hello! We are Oscar and Nancy, and we are looking for a live-in helper in East Coast, Singapore.

About us: We are expecting our first baby in April 2024. Oscar is from the UK and Nancy is from USA — we have been in Singapore for two years and both work full time. In our free time we love reading, listening to music, hosting friends for meals at our house, cooking and baking, travel and staying active. We can both speak Mandarin Chinese and love to learn about different cultures — especially trying different foods! We hope you enjoy cooking and we can cook together and exchange recipes. We especially love to eat Indian, Italian, Middle Eastern and different Asian food.

About the position: We are looking for a helper to start in early March so we can get to know each other, build a happy home and establish a routine before our baby arrives in April. We plan to take maternity/paternity leave, so we will be at home for a few months. But then we aim to return to work full-time around July/August 2024, after which we will need the helper to become the main daytime carer for our baby. We both often work from home, but this schedule will be determined after the baby is born.

What we need: We are looking for a helper who can support our new family with household chores including infant care, cleaning and tidying house, preparing and cooking meals, laundry, ironing and running errands, like grocery shopping. It is our first time being parents and having a helper so we appreciate someone who is kind, patient and supportive, especially because we are welcoming you to our home and learning as we go!

We are looking for someone who:

  • is currently in Singapore and has experience working with American and European families â€” We hope you enjoy living in Singapore and have a group of friends here who keep you active, happy and healthy during your time off.
  • has available references from current/previous jobs â€” We will reach out to check with your references
  • has first-aid certification for infants/children, or is willing to undertake training.
  • is honest, trustworthy and reliable â€” It is extremely important you are open and honest about yourself and your work. We have no tolerance for lying.
  • is empathetic, kind, and optimistic â€” We will be living together so we appreciate a respectful and happy household. We love to laugh and have fun. We don't appreciate complaining, sulking or a negative attitude that might affect our family
  • is patient, non-judgmental and flexible — We are first-time parents and learning as we go. We may change methods/schedules based on the baby so we appreciate your flexibility as we learn together
  • is respectful of space and noise â€” We appreciate our personal space and keeping noise to a minimum.
  • is hygienic â€” As we will have an infant, we appreciate your personal cleanliness and also ensuring our home remains bug-free.
  • is financially prudent and does not have any existing loans or request payment in advance
  • does not smoke, and does not drink alcohol when working
  • is independent and takes initiative with household tasks that require attention. During your first months with us, we will share our schedule and standards of how to keep the house, but we expect you to take initiative thereafter, so we don't need to remind you about tasks, etc.
  • is a clear communicator and detail oriented — If something is not clear, we ask you inquire with us, not to make assumptions
  • is engaging and attentive — when you care for our infant, we expect you to be engaging and nurturing, not playing on your phone and ignoring the baby.

Start date: early March 2024

Our offer: The chosen candidate will have their own decently-sized room (not with the baby) in our three-bedroom home in East Coast. Salary to be discussed. At least one day off a week (usually Sunday, but flexible to requirements).

We look forward to talking with you and answering any questions you have!
