Hello!
We are an American family looking for a transfer helper to replace my helper who just got engaged and wants to move to the UK. We are flexible about the start date as my current helper will stay until she had trained a new helper.
Highlights
1. 2 Sunday off days per month (will pay extra for working); work PH (some exceptions allowed)
2. Kids go to school; 1 old dog (must like dogs)
3. Kind Employer i.e. pays for dentist and stable (i.e. been in SG for 11 years, will stay).
4. Will learn lots of new skills - need interest to learn
5. Please read details of ad before writing to me. As my children are older and in school for most of the day i.e. from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm and I am a widow who works full-time, the role is part standard helper duties and also part house manager/administrator. I need someone who is smart, able to juggle with a can-do attitude who is able to figure things out (just as I would) by using google. I have been in Singapore for 11 years and have had a number of long-time helpers. My helper gets up early (5 am) to take out the dog and needs to take out the dogs at 9pm but is usually finished with her work and in her room by 7:30 pm.
We want someone coming from working for local families (e.g. Indian, Chinese, etc). We plan on staying in Singapore for a long time and want the person to have or quickly be able to learn computer skills for grocery shopping, scanning insurance paperwork, arranging, and paying for handyman/vet appointments, getting books out of the library, running errands, and transporting my kids.
We have a happy, but busy, home with three wonderful children (ages 12, 10 and 8), one 15-year-old hypoallergenic dogs who the helper feeds twice a day, bathes twice a week and handles medicine (twice a day). We have plants on a balcony which are watered 2 times a day. The helper will have their own small private room with a shared bathroom.
We want someone who is hardworking, patient and good with children. The helper should be humble and understand that this is my home and I expect that they will follow my instructions. Just as I would not talk back or yell at my manager, I do not allow back talk, or yelling at me.
We keep our house gluten free ie rice, corn all ok but no wheat. We have special gluten free pasta etc.
Our helpers order groceries online, use a phone (which we provide) and still pick up my youngest child on public transport or grab (the other children can manage on their own). I can teach them and have had to teach my helpers about scanners/computers, but they should know or be able to quickly learn, how to get places on public transport, call a bike repair shop, order groceries online, use a scanner to complete and scan insurance paperwork and record it in an excel file. My helper checks a google calendar each morning to learn about the plan, records appointments on the google calendar and we communicate through group chats. My helpers always tell me that they have learned much more from working in my household than any place else and these are life skills they can take with them.
My helper does the standard things like packing the children’s lunch, school bags, clean the house, doing the laundry, making sourdough bread, and do other cooking. We can teach them how to do any of these things that they don't know. I have a dishwasher. They also do light sewing and they should be able to look up things on youtube like how to use a sewing machine.
As I am a widow with three kids on my own, I ask that my helpers work until 10 am on their off days and public holidays and come back by 9pm to take out the dogs and start the sourdough bread. If they need to go to class or have 3 Christian holidays they need off, I can be flexible as long as they prepare the things in the morning for the day and help to walk the dogs and prepare the bread when they get home. Currently I give my helper 2 off day per month on Sunday (10 am to 9pm). If they want an off day per week, I can give them a second off day on Mondays. We live 5 minutes’ walk away from the Holland Village MRT.
Just like I can’t be in a meeting and talking on the phone with my friends, the Helper is not allowed to use her phone when my children are home and she cannot use her phone if it distracts from her work. Usually good phone time is when the helper walks the dogs, four times a day, 20 minutes each or during her rest time. I give each of my Helpers a house phone, so if there’s ever any family emergency, their family can contact them on that.
We pay for the helper's MRT expenses, Embassy/passport expenses, and home leave. We will pay a salary in line with experience. Thank you!
